O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Film / Movie

Ruprect is back with a review of the Coen’s "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", a comedy set in 1920-30’s Mississippi. George Clooney plays a complete moron, accompanied by two even greater morons, on a quest that parallels that in Homer’s Odyssey, all set to one of the best soundtracks since American Beauty’s score. A previous Coen flick, The Big Lebowski is one of my favourites, so i am very anxious for this film to make it’s way to Tallahassee. In the meantime, let’s hear what Ruprect had to say…

TASCAM is a huge name in audio, and I have used their products on several occasions, with great results. This is a huge announcement for BeIA expanding beyond the typical niche that it is percieved in. This should have some amazing results. Read on for the press release..

Site posts Daily Builds of BeZilla

BeZilla

Well, BeZilla has made great progress recently, and just keeps going. Up until now it has been very hard to follow their work because the build process was difficult, and consumed lots of time and resources. Solving that problem is Wade Majors, who is posting daily builds of BeZilla on his site. So if you get bored and feel like seeing what point it is at, now its much easier. Mozilla is a huge project, and the progress being made is very encouraging. I urge you to support the BeZilla dev’s any way you can, because a modern browser is a pretty big need right now. Way to go BeZilla team and Wade!

Moho updated on BeOS

Art / Image

In a very interesting move, Lost Marble has posted what is labeled Moho 2.2 to BeBits. Version 2.2 is the current version of their animation software Moho for all platforms. We recently ran an email from Moho showing questionable support of the BeOS version. While the changes from 2.0 to 2.2 are mainly windows specific and won’t help BeOS users much, this rapid update to the BeOS edition could be shown as a very positive message from Lost Marble.

Well, I guess I have held out long enough on Part 2 of the infamous Jean-Louis Gassée interview. So now i have posted part 2 online, as an extension to the first part of the interview. You can jump straight to the second half here. Feel free to pick up from where the first half’s comments left off, or head over here and keep on chugging with new comments. I hope it was worth the wait. Update: BTW - JLG has agreed to answer 10 questions from our comments (as picked by us) so, get your thinking caps on boys & girls.

When Be announced HARP, we were all excited about the coolness of a Be powered stereo device, but a little unclear about what it was. Well, I asked our contact at Be’s PR firm about a few images. We got one. But what an image it is. :)

Gobe Software

Apparently Gobe is now hiring. They want people experienced in cross-platform development, which gives weight to the cross-platform rumors surrounding them. That said, the first platform they list is BeOS, so that is helpful. Anyway, it’s a good sign for Gobe that they are in a situation suitable to hire more engineers. Way to go guys!

Lord of the Rings Trailer Friday

Film / Movie

BeGroovy’s Ruprect wrote in to point out that the trailer for “Lord of the Rings” will premier attached to the Kevin Costner film, “Thirteen Days”, tommorrow. (at least in the US, that is). I just finished reading LOTR and firmly believe that this film series (if done correctly) will unseat star wars as the best fantasy/scifi trilogy ever. It is by far the best epic story i have ever read. Oh yeah, Thirteen Days is supposed to be a great film as well, so you may actually want to stay when the trailer ends.

Interview

Since BeGroovy began, one of our top goals has been an interview with the man himself, Jean-Louis Gassée. Thanks to the efforts of Scar, such an interview was arranged and conducted december 12th 2000, when Myself, Scar, and JLG sat down for a few hours to chat about the year 2000 for Be, Inc, as well as what the future may hold. Its gone through the system, and here it (finally) is. Have a blast. :)

Be tackles Audio Head-On

Posted by:Ryan on Monday, 08 Jan, 2001 @ 1:13 AM

Be Inc

Be has published two press releases…one about their audio platform, HARP, and the other about an interesting broadband music service. HARP sounds like a new name on the basis of Be’s AURA, which is a killer system. If this is handled well, it could revolutionize the stereo. Sounds good tome. The broadband alliance with Music Republic (more net+ friendly page) is also interesting as it acts as a listening point for tons of various channels, and has been working at Tower Records in New York since last September. Can anyone else see free “Try Music Browser at Home” CD’s hanging next to this, with free Be on it? :P

Hardware

Lots of new IA’s have been unveiled at CES, including Sony’s eVilla. This is a huge deal for Be Inc, as it is a MAJOR new unannounced partner finally announcing products. Meanwhile Qubit has stated that they are going to announce a few IA’s at CES, and have posted 3 new press releases on their website. Update: you can find some great images of the eVilla here and read the Be press release here. Also, BeDope has announced “eVilla week”, so check them out everyday for updated *ahem* news. :)

Just noticed that Jabber for BeOS has been released on bebits by Rapture in Venice. This is a great app which i have been testing for quite a while… It is currently useful mainly for chatting among jabber users, as the transports are iffy on the server side… but they should be working soon. This is the most stable IM client i have used on BeOS for any system, and I reccommend you all try it. :)
