OpenBeOS acting like a duck!

Posted by:Yez on Thursday, 04 Dec, 2003 @ 3:19 PM

Like the beautiful duck that appears to sit on the water, apparently doing nothing, we have watched OBOS, wondering if they were actually doing anything. While the duck kicks like the dickens to stay in one spot, the OBOS team is working hard behind the scenes, moving all the nitty-gritty inners of OBOS towards the R1 goal. Head on over to the Open BeOS website to find out who deserves all the kudos and what they have been working on.

A short while back we mentioned that Dane Scott from BeOS Radio was looking for a quality scheduler app for BeOS. One idea was to develop a nice frontend for Cron. Le Buzz is now reporting that Brent P. Newhall has stepped up to the challenge of building such a frontend and he calls it “Cronan the Scheduler.” Head on over to LeBuzz to find out more about this app.

Final Requests for Max 3.1

General News

OK, Vasper has mentioned that BeOS Max v3.1 would be the LAST version that he puts together and now he is asking for any final requests before he builds the distro. Please, keep in mind that he is keeping it all as legal as possible so, any requests for illegal software such as BONE or the new app kit or Corum II will be ignored. So, get over there and make sure he has the drivers you need on his list of “things to include in v3.1.”

That’s right folks, another review of Zeta RC1 can be found at Zeta News and this one isn’t exactly glowing. It is an extensive review from a non-BeOS user. The review gives us a nice “what will new users think of Zeta” point of view. You can read the whole review here and comment on what you think of Zeta so far. If BeGroovy ever gets a hold of Zeta, we will give you our spin on it as well.

Yellowtab has just released information about the Developer’s Corner that will now provide help with the development of applications for Zeta. It appears that yT realizes the power of PR and we hope to see more efforts like this to bring developers to Zeta so that the applications can be built that will eventually bring more users to Zeta. Film / Movie

Okay, just got back from watching the Matrix. I have only one thing to say…

Seriously, don’t listen to the negative hype. Just suspend your disbelief a little bit (as you would any sci-fi flick), and go see it! I’ll see it again, no doubt. Sure, there are a couple of unanswered things, but all in all, definitely a finale worth every moment. Go. Now.

[Disclaimer: MHO, obviously.]

Dane from BeOS Radio is looking for a good BeOS developer for an important app. In a nutshell, Dane feels that BeOS needs a quality scheduling app that will allow a user to setup events that run apps periodically. Dane’s solution is a nice BeOS app that servers as a Cron configurator. Click here to read the whole article over at LeBuzz.

Darkwyrm on the move

Posted by:Yez on Wednesday, 29 Oct, 2003 @ 11:12 PM

It appears that the notorious OBOS app_server developer Darkwyrm is on the move again. This time he and his family are moving to a nice roomy house a little ways north of his current location. We can only hope that the new enviornment will still be conducive to code development. With this move, he may not be able to answer your emails immediately. You can get more information from Darkwyrm’s Webpage.

Zeta Shipping November 3rd

Posted by:Ryan on Wednesday, 29 Oct, 2003 @ 10:36 AM

yellowTAB has recieved notification from it’s media production house that Zeta RC-1 CD’s are going to be done this week, and shipping will begin on November 3rd. Good news all around. IIRC, People who purchase RC-1 will be able to upgrade to the final release of Zeta at a reduced rate (media + shipping).

Other recent news from yellowTab includes a partnership with the Paragon Software Group to create a partition manager for Zeta - a lossless partition manager for Zeta would be quite an achievement, and would really help with the dual boot situation.

You can read a review of Zeta RC-1 over at OSNews.
