BeGroovy launches New Features

Site News

Well, after ages of coding, I have finally launched a whole new aspect to BeGroovy… A user system. This allows all sorts of customizations per user, as well as creating the basis we need to finish lots of other features we have been planning. Read On for details… update: apparently users are having issues with commenting. mostly to do with post simply not appearing. which is obviously bad. I am going to rewrite the commenting code by monday, to solve as many bugs as i can. I hereby declare this weekend “open beta” :P

To create a new account, go to the new account page and input a username, and a VALID email address. You will then be taken to a login page. Use the temporary password that is emailed to you, along with your username, to login to the system. If it is your first login, you will be requested to change your password. Do so, and you are done. All other user details are optional under your user profile.

This user system covers the entire site, except the forums, and allows you to customize several major parts of the site, including sidebars, infoquotes, and various settings for things like commenting.

Speaking of commenting, we have moved to a new form of commenting. If you are not logged in, you have to post as Anonymous. If you ARE logged in, you post as your user account, or optionally as Anonymous. This is pretty typical for most community sites, and doesnt work very differently here. Logged in users have the option to edit their posts if they made a mistake, and it will be tagged with an “edited by” marker.

We have also added Post Preview to commenting, so have a blast.

Finally, we are going to start looking for moderators. If you are interested, email me with the word “moderator” in the subject line. I am only looking for 10-15 die hard readers for the first round, just to start using the system. It will probably expand from there.

That’s it for now, but there is much more on the way in the near future. If you find any bugs, please let me know. Thanks!

    Good job

Should we call this BeGroovy 2001?

  2. Nutcase Says:

    NOT Forum Accounts

There seems to be a bit of confusion among some people… these accounts are independant of the Forum Accounts. We will work on a way to integrate them, but for now you will have to create a new account for the rest of the site. Thanks! :)

    Also….

Also, I want to take a minute to thank the peeps that helped with this whole thing….

Zippy helped by making a lot of the titles that appear around the user area.

Daniel Reinhold made the original version of the AMAZING BeGroovy Customizer that users can access. He did 99% of what you see there, with only a few mild changes added to accomodate newer features of the site. The customizer was a huge amount of work, and it shows on every page. Its the crown jewel of the user system, and it was all him.

    Thanks guys!

You havent SEEN BeGroovy 2001 yet… this is BeGroovy 2000… just a bit behind schedule. :)

    Re: Good job

Sounds good, but I think you might want to update the copyright info on the bottom of your page(s), no matter when the changes were intended for.

    ;>)

    Anyway, excellent work so far.

    Re: Test

Was your post to the BONE topic a reply? There was a reply bug up until around 10am today. I think i fixed it, but if you are having problems, email me. Tell me exactly what you did, in what order (i.e. - as logged in I posted, previewed, revised, previewed, revised, submitted) that sorta thing.

    Re: Test

It seems to be sort of fixed now. I was logged in and replying. I tried all combinations of plaintext-only, html-included, both previewing and not-previewing and it always failed, up until a few minutes ago when it magially started working.

    Awesome!

Great job guys! I love this “new” BeGroovy. Now I can check my BeNews from here, hehehe :) .

  9. Kart Says:

    Still Broken

No, something is STILL seriously broken (ignore where I said that it worked.)

The problem seems to be that you can only reply to a post one time.

So, to test that theory, here is my first reply to this thread.

    Re: Still Broken

I could not reply to either of my posts in this thread. Now I quit and relogged back in and am trying again.

    Re: Still Broken

gonna reply here as well. cause thats weird. I suspect it has to do with caching. what browser are you using?

    Test

    This should be normal text
    This should be italic
    This should be bold
    This should be underlined

    Re: Test

Hmm, posting to this forum seems to be working. I just tried posting to the article about BONE and nothing happened. I hit “submit” and my post never appeared. Looks like the new system might be incompatible with the old stories.

    Try clearing your cache?

    Re: Still Broken

ok.. I just replicated the bug. It has something to do with the post comment page just popping up rather than loading from the server.. it is definately a cache issue. I still dont know why it wouldnt work though.

I will completely rewrite the core commenting code this weekend to weed out the bugs. Hopefully by monday all these issues will be a thing of the past.

    where are all the comments?

Do I have them turned off somehow?

Nutcase, VERY good job, my man! Wow, incredibly intuitive. Nice work.

Where did you get all that stuff, like the weather and timezones. Dang, dude!

Re: where are all the comments?

if you created an account before around 10am today, you have to set your comment prefs again. Simply select a different view mode and hit submit. Once you do it once, the problem will be solved.
