Being Groovy

Site News

Okay, so altp pulled some stats for me (I didn’t even know this was hosted by him!) - averaging 1,126 visits a day. That’s enough to tell me that we need to stick it out. :) I had thought we were less than 100, judging by the forum activity, but it appears I was just being doomy and gloomy. ;)

Also, Allnew appears from the ether to help with a redesign. For those that do not know, Allnew (aka Adam Olson) was one of the founders of BeGroovy, and has done pretty much all the graphics you have seen here over the various iterations of BeGroovy (minus that ugly blue and gold one I did in 1.0 that still shows up on BeBits once in a while).

So, at any rate, we’ll stay on the server we are on, taking our time to migrate whatever it is we need to move over to a newly designed site, and TRY to kick things in gear here again.

That all said, any volunteers with coding a new version of the site, or after completion, news posting, article writing, and/or forum moderation - or if you just have an idea or comment on new/current features, email me!

Glad to see you have decided to stick around. I must admit, I prefer BeGroovy to some of the other sites but in the recent months I have noticed less and less news. I guess that is why my first instinct was to go to some of the other sites but I think I might see if I can help breathe some added life into the new and improved BeGroovy when it is finally unveiled.

Maybe I should have told you guys about amdzone.com posting something about a talk with yT guys about ‘officially’ or should that be ‘properly’ supporting AMD64 instructions in Zeta in the future. I found the news interesting as to properly support AMD64 would require some kernel work so who knows. Also seems that Chris@amdzone is/was a fan of BeOS although some of his info from the post was a little off.

C’est la vie, just glad to hear that you guys have decided to stick around.

    Me too! :)

So… (re optik) this means that perhaps yT actually DOES have the sources for the kernel? I know it had been a topic of debate…

  3. Anonymous Says:

I know for a fact that yT does not have the source code for the kernel. If they did acquire it, they did so illegally. yT never had a contract with Be Inc and they never had a contract with Palm so pretty much everything they are doing is plain and simply illegal.

  4. filo Says:

    dear anonymous coward:

Do you have proof of this allegation; namely, that no contract, whatsoever, of any sort exists between Be, Inc. and yellowTab?

What’s that? You don’t? Oh, well then please,

    the rest of us

  5. optik-white Says:

I would have to agree with filo. I am tired of speculations of whether they have a contract or not. If you don’t like their business practices, don’t purchase their products and leave it at that.

And if Palm doesn’t see fit to do anything, provided what you claim is true, why should I concern myself with it. They trying to bring new life into something we all love, or else we still wouldn’t be visiting sites such as this, ne?

Personally I am more perplexed with the USPTO who just granted Microsoft a Patent for grouping items in a taskbar. I know I was using this feature on BeOS well before XP ever saw light of day. Whoo! YEAH!

filo, how am I supposed to prove a negative? Do you want to see a picture of them NOT signing a contract? The truth is that Next Generation, NOT yT had a distribution contract with Be, Inc. Next Generation is no more so that contract is no more. Even if someone could prove that yT is/was Next Generation, they only had a contract to distribute Dano and not “modify and distribute it.”

optik-white, true Palm hasn’t done anything, yet. I wonder if they are waiting until they feel it would be worth it to nail yT and all their customers to the wall. Or, like you said, they just don’t see fit to do anything. I guess we will see.
