Site News

Contrary to popular belief, BeGroovy is NOT dead! The typical news posting and admin ranting will commence immediately. With this in mind, please take the time to remove your deleted BeGroovy bookmark from the trash. Dust it off and let your friends and family know that they can once again turn to BeGroovy for the news that matters and is usually fun to read. So, without further adieu, on with the show!

Five years is a long time to keep a BeOS website going, no less going strong. We’ve (Nutcase and I) continually asked for help with posting, as we fall into down points in our lives occassionally where there is just no time and/or energy to maintain BeGroovy - five years can contain a lot of those points.

Nevermind the various server issues (hacked twice, lost server, lost hard drives, etc) over five years as well. BeGroovy was never profitable, nor aimed at making money, we always did it because we wanted to, and paid out of our pockets to keep it going. Blood, sweat, tears, and money for new hardware and server costs. :P

This past “hibernation” was the loss of the backend system, which Nutcase fixed up for us. For a time there, we couldn’t post at all.

These things can wear you down from time to time - and make you wonder why you still do it. But we just can’t leave it behind - too much love there for the site, the community and the OS. :P

BeGroovy will remain as long as people still visit it. Nutcase said this a couple of years ago when there was fear, uncertainty and doubt throughout the community due to a certain focus shift and the loss of Be, Inc. I reiterate it now. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always mean that the front page will remain active - not without the help of others - we can’t always do it alone.

But now, Yez has finally stepped up to the plate and wants to bring BeGroovy back to a front line site. Support him in that, provide him news items. I can tell you, it’s very hard and time consuming to do it on your own.

Nutcase and I will be still around, but likely not anymore than this last year. For me, maybe, we’ll see, as I pass the halfway point in my Master’s program and finally get to move back home with my family full-time after 2 years of being mostly away (new job, again, but this time close enough to home). Will things finally settle down again for me to the pre-dot.bomb days where I had time and energy to devote to BeOS endeavours? We’ll see. ;)

Yez, good luck, and best wishes… hopefully I’ll be back around sooner rather than later to help more. :)

Damn. 5 years?! I forgot it’s been that long. Crazy.

Hopefully Yez will get this bad boy going strong again. I don’t really have enough time or motivation to do so, but I would love to read it. :)

Wish you the best, did a great job all the years. Hope you find the time to get BeGroovy up again.
