OpenBeOS Updates

Well, after a long absense of news, OpenBeOS has posted a few new updates. These include a new newsletter, a midikit milestone, and another appearance my Michael Phipps on internet radio, scheduled for right now. Read on for details..

First of all, congratulations to the midi team, who have reached milestone 2 of the midi kit. this completes libmidi.so, which can just be dropped into place and works. The only remaining features to complete are hardware midi support, and softsynth support. I am not a big midi guru or anything, but it seems like that means it cant read or write to external midi synths, and can’t synthesize the midi sounds on the pc either. So basically, it just moves midi data around internally correctly - but you can’t hear it. Now, i am probably wrong on this, but it struck me as funny. Either way, its great progress towards a complete drop in replacement, and it makes that cool grid of theirs look a bit better. You can grab the binary of the kit here.

Meanwhile, Michael Phipps is scheduled to reappear on OnComputers, an internet radio broadcast. His appearance is for today, so if you want to hear it, tune in NOW. The show runs from 10am to 1pm Pacific - i.e. It’s on now.

Finally, there is a new newsletter available. Check it out.
