Ok.. so it looks like our pals over at the general coffee company film productions who create the macromedia flash plugin for beos seem to be having trouble getting it updated. The problem seems to be that Macromedia won’t help them get it updated to support Flash 5 and later. Apparently they use Macromedia licensed code, and cant get updated player code to work with. In anycase, it would probably be a good idea to let macromedia know if you want it updated, etc. If anyone figures out the best way to do that, let me know and I will tack it on the end of this story. Just a thought.
Update: A reader wrote in with this link to request features in macromedia flash. Could be good. There is also a link to a petition being started in the comments below.

Petition
I’ve signed the petition, but there are also other points I wish to make to Macromedia.
I think the link posted for feature requests is a good idea - you can drop down the OS list, select other, and enter BeOS.
We need some organised mass-mailing going on people. But first we need to sort out one or two things:
Did General Coffee have to buy the source from Macromedia? Do they need more money now to get Macromedia to give them Flash 6 source?
Really what we want is an officially suported and updated Flash player from Macromedia themselves. If this is not possible (ok so it probably isn’t) we need them to allow other companies (General Coffee) to port the player for them.
Once we’ve discussed what we want, then will be the time to bombard Macromedia with emails. But for now - keep signing that petition.
I’ll post a thread in the forum to discuss this further. (That’s generally more widely read than these comments, I believe).
Simon.

No Petition Found at that URL
No Petition found at URL provided (I’m using Net on BeOS R5 Pro). Searching the site for such a petition proves fruitless, too.

Re: No Petition Found at that URL
I found that too, in Mozilla.
Stripping the petition.html off the end worked though.
