2nd Last Chance Last Chance

Okay, so eBay evidently spotted “CDR” in the auction and thought I was distributing pirated CDR’s of the Last Chance package, and not the original Last Chance CD distributed by WCD, which happens to be a CDR. They cancelled the auction.

Here’s the new auction for your bidding pleasure. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    eBay and CD-R

IIRC, eBay policy is to ban all auctions of CD-R-based items (both music and software) unless the seller is the original publisher. Based on the notice I read recently this includes auctions that would otherwise be permitted (i.e. re-selling a product that was distributed on CD-R rather than regular CD-ROM).

    Re: eBay and CD-R

Here’s the eBay notice referred to:
    http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-software.html

“eBay Policy on Software on CD-R:”

“As a matter of eBay policy, software on CD-R (including CD-RW) may not be listed on eBay, unless the seller is the copyright owner and states this in the item description. This means that, among other things, compilations (e.g., multiple software programs on one disk), “freeware” and “shareware” on CD-R may not be listed on eBay. This policy also means that even lawful software on CD-R is not permitted on eBay. This following situation illustrates how this might arise.”

“Example: An individual or small software company decides to release its software on CD-R. The software company sells the software on CD-R on eBay to Jack. This is permissible because the software company is the copyright owner of the software. Jack now wants to resell the software on CD-R on eBay. The software on CD-R is “lawful software,” but Jack (or anyone other than the software company) is not permitted to list this item on eBay.”

    This pisses me off

you should have cleared this up before originally posting this.

I bid specifically on the first auction, and I come back today to see the status, it’s gone, and in its place are 10 bids all higher than the one I had done.

    Forget it.

They will accept a Visa Debit card at Ebay. (Most sites that want credit cards also accept debit cards). The easiest way to get a Visa Debit card is to go to your local bank & open a checking account & get a MAC/ATM card, If it has a little Visa logo like most do, thats a Visa debit card good whereever visa credit cards are good (as long as you have the money in the bank. Using the card is just like writing a check.

    Civ:CTP Patch included?

Do you know if the BeOs version of CTP includes the patch that was later released to fix a few bugs in the game? I have that game for windows & a couple of the games wonders don’t work without the patch… Globesat and ah…I forget, but the game is very playable without the patch.

Ebay is a bunch of lying thieves…

eBay policy, what?!! I can search eBay for a decade finding stuff that does not fit accoring to their terms of use. And that is no accident: If sex-shops can list items by the hundreds on a regular basis, I wonder how anyone on behalf of eBay can be such a maroon and not find them… hey eBay: **hint hint** - search for “fetish” (uhh.. a wild one) and even with that single word you will have days of fun… I’ve seen a report on their so called internal task force for eBay violations - it’s a big lie…

    Re: aaaaaaaaaaah

You used to be able to just use your bank account. At least that’s how I opened my paypal account at first. Later on I did add a credit card though.

    Re: aaaaaaaaaaah

Read the last paragraph in my description… If you can get me the money, I can get you the package. I can’t accept credit cards - only through paypal, but if you can send me an international money order, a electronic funds transfer to my bank account, or otherwise get me the money in US dollars, then you have nothing to worry about. :)

    Re: This pisses me off

Well, there are 14 packages, and 14 bids, the least of which is $45, so unless your previous bid was $45, you should still get in the same position as before.

    Re: Civ:CTP Patch included?

If i remember correctly, the last-chance CD comes with the last patches Wildcard Design released, if that’s the patch you’re thinking of…

    Re: This pisses me off

Unfortunately, ebay doesn’t tell the seller who the bidders were, afaik, so there was no way for Deej to tell you that the auction had to be restarted.

    Re: This pisses me off

Yes, not only do they not let me see who the high bidders were, I couldn’t even look at the cancelled item to see what I had wrote before or anything like that. I couldn’t do anything about it or with it at all. I’m really sorry about that…

But hey, there’s more quantity there, and if you were outbid now, you would’ve been outbid before on the original auction. There’s no reason to believe that the second time around people decided to bid but weren’t going to before. And the last I looked, the minimum bid was $60 on that old auction, so you must’ve paid at least that much, right? Would still get you in the running now.

The reason I did the whole eBay thing was to make sure everyone that wanted it had a chance, and was sorted by who wanted it most - whoever would pay the most. I’m not pocketing any profits, all of that goes to the driverfund and to John F., who really deserves it.

    Re: Civ:CTP Patch included?

I haven’t broken open the Last Chance CD to confirm everything that’s on it (I bought Civ and EUS separately, so I never ordered the Last Chance myself). It is supposed to be, according to the former CEO, _everything_ that WCD had ever released, which to me says any patches too. I’m sure if it’s not there, someone has the patch that will provide it on BeShare or something. Hell, sounds like I need it. :)

    Re: aaaaaaaaaaah

I think you are being unfair. You can still jump in the auction at 46 bux.

Besides this is a f*cking auction, man! Nobody guaranteed you last time that you’d keep your price! As a matter of fact, it’s in the last 5 hors that most of the bids fall into place.

Deej, can you please send me my password? My username is mario. Thanks!

    Dude

I totally want one of those last chance packages !

Too bad you had to choose Ebay to do it . . . I’ve dealt with them in the past and gotten screwed (by Ebay not by sellers/bidders) and I’d never register with them again

OH and BTW . . for anyone paying for a Juno or Netzero account . . . Ebay HATES you !

You’d have to have a seperate ISP just to sign up unless you want to give them your credit card, all of your personal information, and a noterized note from your mother.

    Re: Civ:CTP Patch included?

Does anybody have a mirror of the patch itself? I was trying to reinstall CivCTP the other day (ran out of space, grr…) and I noticed that I lost the patch along the way. Since WildCard blew up I don’t know how to find it anymore.

    Re: [No Subject]

Well, you could get a friend to bid on it for you. You might even be able to convince someone here to bid for you, if you told them who you were. :)
