MP3 Pro on BeOS?

Mike Zader was looking into MP3 Pro at Coding Technologies, and if they’re considering a port for BeOS. Here’s their answer:

This is not yet decided. Technically, the libraries should be easily ported to BeOS so if there is a demand and a company interested in doing so, this should be possible.

Whatever happens, we will post this on our website.

So is there demand? Is there someone out there willing and capable of porting the codec?

Sorry, forgot the link.

It would help us to create demand…

…if a link to the company was provided so we could submit our interest :)

I think it would be a good thing to have. I personally don’t have the skills required to do the port, so I hope somebody can step up to the plate.

I agree with you in this point (two words). The other thing is : if there is a easy port for any MM - Codec, a MM-OS has to offer it ! That simple. It’s up to you to use it or not. I tried mp3pro out on W2YK - the 64kbps-Compression ’shall’ sound as a standard 128 kbps-Compression on normal mp3 - I can’t acknowledge this. The sound is not as good as they pretend.

On the other side : Ogg Vorbis in itself has a better Soundquality on 128kbps than mp3…

At the end, we just need the codec for BeOS. The Windoze - using cradle will (be) choose(n) the master-codec for the internet on their own (few times;-) - wether it is the better one (.ogg) or not.

You remember the PR - Concept of Creative Labs considering their Soundblaster - cards - “Are you compatible ?”…
