The esteemed Jason “aka. Maverick” VanDerMark emailed in to alert us of a recent LooneyBin posting by Bryan Varner about the Java AWT (a beunited project - thus the icon/category for this posting):

Bryan Varner has posted an update to the state of Java on BeOS. The team’s work on AWT seems to be progressing quite well as they are now able to run JEdit 4.1. Bryan has posted screenshots of JEdit here and here. Good news for everyone.

Good news indeed. We seem to be moving ever so closer to a complete desktop solution with Zeta, Haiku and Java. Too bad it can’t move along just a little bit faster. ;)

Zeta at Linux World Expo

At the upcoming Linux World Expo / Tokyo 2005 in June, yellowTab will be demonstrating Zeta, Titled “ZETA: Born and raised to be a desktop OS,” the presentation is intended to introduce the ZETA desktop platform, with an emphasis on the advantages when compared against a backdrop of the various desktop Linux distributions. From the press release:

“In contrast with Linux desktop distributions, ZETA was designed from the ground up to be a desktop OS,” comments CEO Bernd Korz. “This translates into many advantages for users, such as easy installation, very fast boot time, great response, pervasive drag-and-drop support, incredibly fast file search, and excellent multimedia performance even on low-end computers. I want to show the audience in Tokyo how far we have come with ZETA, and also talk about what to expect from our desktop platform in the future.”

Seems like Bernd/yT is going to promote in a good way to the Linux folk - to the users that want a user friendly experience without Windows and with the power and stability of Linux underneath it. Sounds like a winning plan to me. :)
