Tyler Dauwalder has posted the first version of his read only UDF filesystem to BeBits. UDF is the filesystem used mainly on DVD’s and such, but is also used on various CD’s etc. It’s a pretty important filesystem going forward, and it’s great to have. Currently it supports most commercial (read: pressed) dvds and cds, but not those burned with packet writing software. No information about if it will eventually support the others or not. Fingers crossed.
It seems Tyler created this filesystem as part of OpenBeOS. Their modular design is very very impressive. Tyler, thanks for all your hard work! Keep it up.
Scottmc wrote in to let us know about the newly redesigned BeDrivers website. He had this to say about it:
The new site is using php and will allow easier updates. This new site was created by Sikosis and he’ll be helping me out keeping things more upto date than in the past. We now have the ability to post stories (probably driver related ones). Also the Most Wanted page will soon have the option to let users enter their “Most Wanted” driver. There’s still work to be done on the new site, such as adding the driver links back in. Hope everyone likes the new look.
Don’t see it yet? Don’t worry, DNS is still propogating for the new site. You will - soon.
Rudolf Cornelissen, the author of the NeoMagic driver we posted about a couple of months ago, has begun work on a new nVidia driver. He had this to say in a post to the BeDriverTalk mailing list:
Currently modesetup is partially working, all cards should be recognized (85!) and the hardcursor is operational.
He also mentions the current status of the NeoMagic video driver by saying:
This driver has full modesetup, hardcursor
and hardware overlay working. Some details have to be sorted out though for most cards, because I don’t own them I am unable to test much here
This is great news for both NeoMagic and nVidia users! I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say “Keep up the great hard work Rudolf!” You can find more information and get the current status on the nVidia driver, as well as download the NeoMagic driver, on his website.
Paul sent in a request for your support. StripZilla has made some advances and patches in the graphics library that would be extremely useful to BeZilla itself. Paul has a survey up on the BeZilla site and would like your support helping convince StripZilla to merge their code into BeZilla in order to make BeZilla, the official port of Mozilla, that much better and faster. You can read all about it here. Go show your support for a full featured browser running in the best possible way.
An interesting note from Jason Christie for all you with supposedly defunct Be stock -
…my BeOS stock has quietly doubled in price recently. It’s at .23, right now. At any rate, it’s gone from $90 worth to $170. I thought it was off the market?
Sure, now that we’ve finally removed the ticker from this site!
