John Blanco of Rapture in Venice has written us with some updates involving his BeOS software. We figured we would pass it on.
- Morphy Chess is being open sourced. Both the client AND server source code will be released within a month. John is looking for an “official” maintainer for the project once it is opened. If you are interested, email him.
- Jabber for BeOS is still on sale in it’s final version (v1.21) for $10 through his PayPal account (email@example.com). I hesitate to reccommend that you rush out and spend $10 on software that is not being developed, but it really is quite good. Maybe we could convince him to let us “buy” it’s freedom? Like 10-20 people “register” and in exchange he opens it up or something. Either way, it is a great app, and worth checking out.
- Finally, the Kramnik Chess Project is underway again. He hasn’t had time recently to work on it, but is now planning to finish the code and release. It will be a java client/server chess system. When its complete, John will post a server address so people can play via an applet. Quoth the John “Twill’ be cool”.
Thanks for the updates John!
