Ok. So this is a complete rumor. There.. Disclaimer complete. A reader pointed out that the Be Rumor site, La Belette, posted some new screens of a supposed “R6″ of BeOS. They claim it is being developed for a french company called NaBox who is working on some sort of BeOS based device/pc/thing. I usually don’t post supposed screenshots, but elements of these shots seem realistic. A close analysis of the images shows weird artifacting around the edges of the windows and icons. At first I thought it was leftovers from a photoshop job… but then I remembered how BeOS’s JPG translator does that to my images all the time when i convert from TGA’s. So it could be legit. Who knows? Read on for mirrors of the images, and then Discuss below. :)

Ulitma Online for BeOS. Only not.

Linux peeps have been working on a SDL version of the Ultima Online engine.
Someone recently pointed out to me that if you have the SDL Development Files, Net Files, Mixer Files, Image Files, and the data from Ultima Online, then you can build from their cvs and make it work under BeOS. So if you are feeling a bit more adventurous than just compiling vision, you may want to have a go at this one. Oh yeah, I have been told it’s much more stable in a window than fullscreen. Good Luck. :) Update: Apparently the SDL net build is broken, and you need perl to copy data files. Like i said, not for the weak of heart. We are working on a binary build of the current snapshot. It will be posted here when complete. Update2: Ok.. grab it here, unzip to /boot/home, and use perl to extract the data files for it. Note: This is a completely untested build (we dont have the data files), so again, good luck.

So the Vision IRC client that was started a few weeks ago is beginning to shape up nicely. They have a how-to on their site which will instruct you in how to download and build the current version. Their site oozes quality (except for the empty pages), and it looks like this is an app to watch.

The "Any" Key

After another week or two of down time, due mainly to an email outage on my side, followed by extreme laziness, the any key was down for a week. again. In any case, Rob had sent in a large amount of strips, and they are now in our system. So hopefully we can keep the leadtime built up now. Then again, who knows?
