Several BeGroovy readers wrote in to tell us that Opera 3.62 is apparently confirmed final. This is great news for all involved, and more interestingly, indicates the first directly-BeOS related press release we have seen in a long time. While it appears that this release was issued mainly by Opera, it includes quotes from JLG and is a very satisfying thing to read. Read on for the full release.

BoostSignal needs help

BoostSignal

BoostSignal, the #2 beos files site on the web, is looking for help. On November 5th, BoostSignal’s webmaster posted a request for volunteers to help grow the site beyond what he has time for on his own. He says he has “been bogged down with the general management of every day life.” While everyone goes to BeBits, boostsignal has sort of languished in the background. I think now is a perfect time to help expand the community. So if you have free time, voluteer at begroovy (i will reply to those applications soon, i promise). If you have even MORE free time, help boostsignal. :P
Update: Greydawn has posted details about the needed help in the comments.

CNN focuses on National Semiconductor and BeIA

BeIA’s COMDEX appearance recieved some extensive covereage from CNN among others today. In CNNFn’s article about National Semiconductor and BeIA, they skip directly past Windows CE to focus on BeIA. It actually takes up about half of the articles’ attention. This is definately a good sign for BeIA and Be, but the article points at BeOS as a thing of the past. Check it out and then let us know what you think in our comments.

Long time BeOS users may remember from way back when Bioware announced that they were developing their top of the line roleplaying game, Neverwinter Nights, for the BeOS. People were overjoyed. This was not a port, but a direct release of a top-tier game. Since then we have not heard much from bioware about the beos version, and people began to doubt their sincerity. Thanks to the keen eye of Scar, a BeGroovy reader, we now have a status update for you…

Be Inc

Be has just announced MAP, a unified platform for managing internet appliances. Basically, this means that your appliance will be managed by a MAP server, rather than you having to perform maintenence. This could result in an appliance that NEVER breaks, because it is self tuning. That is a good thing(tm).

They also announced that BeIA will support the entire Epson line. Thats good news.. will that enhanced support migrate back to BeOS? Either way, it is a big deal. I never thought i’d say this, but BeIA is starting to look cool. Read on for the press releases.
