Also, according to Christian’s report the Zintro will be available in Italy as early as next month.

Another review of yelowTAB’s ZETA RC2 can be read over at BeOS.pl. The review is originally written in Polish, with a choppy English version also available. The review covers all the typical topics: installation, boot time, multimedia and networking. There is also a short section on speed comparison between R5 and ZETA.

Some quick updates in case you have missed them. First, yellowTab has released SP2 for Zeta RC1. If you are one of the lucky ones sportin’ your groovy new copy of Zeta RC1 and want the latest patch, head over to yt’s site. Second, for those of you that just can’t get enough of yT’s CVO, Zeta News has posted a couple of links to a 2 part interview(part 1, part 2) with Bernd while he was in Argentenia. Enjoy!

That’s right folks, another review of Zeta RC1 can be found at Zeta News and this one isn’t exactly glowing. It is an extensive review from a non-BeOS user. The review gives us a nice “what will new users think of Zeta” point of view. You can read the whole review here and comment on what you think of Zeta so far. If BeGroovy ever gets a hold of Zeta, we will give you our spin on it as well.

Yellowtab has just released information about the Developer’s Corner that will now provide help with the development of applications for Zeta. It appears that yT realizes the power of PR and we hope to see more efforts like this to bring developers to Zeta so that the applications can be built that will eventually bring more users to Zeta. Zeta Shipping November 3rd

yellowTAB has recieved notification from it’s media production house that Zeta RC-1 CD’s are going to be done this week, and shipping will begin on November 3rd. Good news all around. IIRC, People who purchase RC-1 will be able to upgrade to the final release of Zeta at a reduced rate (media + shipping).

Other recent news from yellowTab includes a partnership with the Paragon Software Group to create a partition manager for Zeta - a lossless partition manager for Zeta would be quite an achievement, and would really help with the dual boot situation.

You can read a review of Zeta RC-1 over at OSNews.

There is an Interview with Benrnd Korz over at OSNews, in which he discusses release dates, change of release strategies (speed vs. features), what has and hasnt been fixed, software updating, and more. It’s quick and brief, but worth a look.

Why Zeta?

Eugenia sent us a head’s up to a new editorial online at OSNews about Zeta. A “Top Ten” reasons sort of thing. I personally will be buying it 1) to support yellowTab’s efforts, 2) to update my system, and 3) because BeOS remains my most oft booted OS. My favorite quote from the article:

PalmSource has absolutely 0% interest in BeOS. Their “execs don’t even remember they actually own the Be IP” someone in the know told me once.

Knowing how they were when beunited.org tried to get a license, I find it quite fortunate that yellowTab was able to license the code at all and save the OS for the community. Support them! Besides, it’ll be a while before we have an open source offering - and I know you all need an updated OS out there! (Aside the fact that yellowTab has plans to incorporate OSS solutions into Zeta, so it becomes a distro of sorts as time goes on anyways).

OSNews Reviews yellowTab beta

Looks like OSNews got a copy of the yellowTab 5b beta. They have posted what they call a “WORLD EXCLUSIVE” first look at yellowTab. It is a bit more indepth than anything we have seen so far, and does get into functionality and behavior, as it is hands on. Most of the news to this point has been screenshots and second hand accounts of behavior in demos. So it’s definately worth a read.

Koki has sent us another update from the land of the Rising Sun:

More exposure for BeOS and Zeta in Japan. This time it is MyCOM PCWEB, a web-based publication by Mainichi Communications, that is carrying a two part report on BeOS and Zeta.

Titled “BeOS Returns! Japanese Zeta debut to bring a new wave”, this thorough report very well articulates the evolution of BeOS from the times of Be Inc. through the present status of Zeta being developed by YellowTAB.

Here are links to Part 1 and Part 2. You’ll have to use one of the web-based translation services to get at least the gist of the report, since the articles are in Japanese. Good news to see more news, at the least!

JPBE.net has released the video images taken at the “Zeta Technology Preview in Tokyo” held last Saturday April 20. The event was held in front of an audience that included developers, resellers and representatives of the Japanese media, including DOS/V Magazine, UNIX USER magazine, Software Design Magazine and Linux Magazine. We expect coverage of the event at the upcoming issues of these publications, and probably others.

JPBE.net is working on a review that they will post later this week. Koki from JPBE.net was kind enough to offer BeGroovy an english translation of the article when it goes online. So look forward to reading a first hand account of the Zeta demo in Japan in the coming days here at BeGroovy, thanks to the generosity of our fellow Be’ers over in Japan. In the meantime, as Koki so eloquently puts it, “one picture is worth more than a thousand words”, so read on for some videos to enjoy until then.

I, for one, can’t wait to hear about it! Anyone out there in J-town that is attending want to submit a “mini-review” for us to post?

A couple of interesting pieces of news from yellowTab. First, they are going to be at CeBIT, “the world’s largest IT and telecommunications fair.” This is sure to bring lots of exposure to the Zeta project. The second bit of news is that they are planning on publishing a “Zeta Bible.” The expected cost is going to be $49.00.
